Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce: 19891 Beach Blvd, #140, Huntington Beach, CA 92648; (714) 536-8888

In 1901, Philip Stanton and Colonel H. S. Finley saw potential in the location to become a west coast resort to rival Atlantic City in New Jersey. They formed the West Coast Land and Water Company, purchased land, and began development of the new community named Pacific City. Less than two years later, the development was sold to another group of investors that included rail tycoon Henry E. Huntington. The city was renamed Huntington Beach.
