The Spanish habra or abra means a gorge or a pass
through the mountains. This area was so named due to its proximity to
the the pass or pathway through the Puente Hills. The Mexican land
grant in the area was named La Cañada del Habra (1839) and
changed to La Habra in American land grant documents.
