The mainstream of the Santa Ana River is more than 100 miles long, and has more than 50 contributing tributaries. It has the largest stream system in Southern California. The headwaters for the river and its tributaries are in the San Gabriel and San Bernardino Mountains to the north and the San Gorgonio and San Jacinto Mountains to the east.
