2003 Stanley Cup Final
The first ever regular season Ducks game was played on October 8, 1993, at Arrowhead Pond against the Detroit Redwings. The Pond had a sell-out crowd of 17,320. The Ducks lost to Detroit 7 to 2. In 1997, the Ducks made their first appearance in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, defeating the Phoenix Coyotes 4-3 in the Western Conference quarterfinals. The Ducks subsequently lost in the semifinals to the Detroit Red Wings. In 2003, the Ducks again appeared in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, defeating the Minnesota Wild 3-0 in Western Conference Finals. In the Stanley Cup Finals, the Ducks battled the New Jersey Devils for seven games, but were defeated 3-0 in the final game. Nevertheless, goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere was voted the Stanley Cup playoff's most valuable player.
